Banned Sipah-e-Sahaba’s Muavia Azam Leaves Pakistan Despite Being On Fourth Schedule

Published on

Despite being on the Fourth Schedule List of the Anti-Terrorism Act, banned outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan leader Muavia Azam Tariq was allowed to leave Pakistan and is currently in Europe.

Muavia Azam Tariq, who is also a member of the Punjab Assembly, is currently on a Europe tour.

According to National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), any individual who has a history of being linked to a proscribed organization can be subjected to restrictions on travel, speech, and business, under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997. The names of such proscribed persons are included in the 4th Schedule.

NACTA’s website states that there are passport and arms license embargos on such individuals. The list of proscribed persons is also shared with the State Bank of Pakistan for monitoring and freezing of their accounts. They are also kept under strict surveillance by intelligence agencies as well as concerned police departments. There is also a ban on loans and credit cards for them.

While talking to BBC News Urdu, Muavia Azam said that despite being on the Fourth Schedule List, his name was not placed on the Exit Control List. He added that his arms license was also not canceled.

He said that strict measures are only taken against those people who are anti-status quo.

He added that his bank accounts are not being monitored and he can take out all the money he wants to since he is a ‘political’ person.
