The Gaza Strip’s inhabitants are increasingly desperate as Israeli air raids continue and a ground attack appears imminent. With homes demolished, hospitals struggling, and garbage accumulating, residents are in dire need of help.
According to a report by Reuters, some individuals were seen digging wells near the sea drinking water or drinking salty tap water from the only aquifer in the area, which is contaminated and unfit for drinking.
In Khan Younis, two individuals offered to provide water to displaced families by filling plastic containers. Others in the area prayed for the end of the conflict between Hamas and Israel, which has raised concerns about a larger Middle East war.
The latest round of air strikes were reported to be the most severe in nine days, resulting in numerous destroyed houses. According to Gaza officials, over 2,750 individuals, primarily civilians, including over 700 children, have died, and almost 10,000 have been injured. An additional 1,000 people are believed to be buried under rubble.
Israel has implemented a complete blockade in Gaza and is gathering troops and tanks along the border in preparation for a ground attack.
The country is determined to eradicate Hamas, the current ruling power in Gaza, in response to a recent attack carried out by Hamas fighters in Israeli towns. This attack resulted in the death of over 1,300 civilians, including children, and the taking of hostages, making it the deadliest attack on Israeli civilians to date.
According to Israel’s military, at least 291 soldiers have also been killed in the conflict.
