Baloch Woman Mahal Remains In Jail On ‘Terrorism’ Charges As Bail Application Delayed

Published on

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has yet to take up the bail application of Mahal Baloch, a 28-year-old woman allegedly abducted from her home in Quetta by security officials and later declared a terror suspect, as she remains in prison for more than two months. This period includes over a 30-day remand into the custody of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

Mahal Baloch was arrested on February 17 by officials from law enforcement agencies from her home in Quetta as alleged by her family and locals. She remained forcibly disappeared until the CTD declared her a “terrorist” on February 19 and claimed they arrested her from a park in Satellite Town, Karachi, recovering a suicide jacket from her.

Since her arrest, she has been continuously remanded into CTD’s custody by a sessions court.

Mahal Baloch’s family and human rights activists have accused CTD and Balochistan government officials of conducting a media trial by releasing the video message of Mahal Baloch in which she confessed her link with the banned BLF.

She has also appeared for a TV interview while she remains in CTD’s custody.

Earlier, Balochistan CTD DIG Aitzaz Goraya and CM’s spokesman Babar Khan Yousafzai had held a press conference and said that Mahal Baloch admitted her association with the outlawed BLF.

They presented a video message of Mahal Baloch in which she confessed her link with the BLF and said her husband was also working for the banned organisation.
