Drone Attack Kills 2 Children In Waziristan, Locals Claim

Published on

An alleged drone attack in the Zangara area of South Waziristan killed two children, according to locals, however, Pakistan’s military has claimed that the children were killed in exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists.

According to reports, the incident occurred in a marketplace around 6pm. Two injured children were brought to Sararogha Hospital, where they succumbed to their wounds.

However, the ISPR said security forces killed eight terrorists during an operation in South Waziristan while two children also embraced martyrdom during an exchange of fire.

According to ISPR, the security forces carried out an operation after getting information about the presence of terrorists in Zangara, South Waziristan. During an intense exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists including mortar fire, eight terrorists were killed, whereas two soldiers sustained injuries, the ISPR said.

Unfortunately, two children also embraced martyrdom during the exchange of fire, according to the ISPR.

Between 2004 and 2018, the United States government attacked thousands of targets in northwest Pakistan using drones. Most of these attacks were on targets in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (now part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province) along the Afghan border in northwest Pakistan. Many innocent civilians lost their lives in drone attacks, which were heavily criticised by human rights defenders.
