A female teacher who was running a school for financially underprivileged kids in the Awaran area of Balochistan committed suicide reportedly over harassment from Levies officials.
The woman, identified as Najma Baloch, was running a school for financially disadvantaged children in her area.
According to her parents, Baloch was subjected to harassment by levies officials, and she killed herself after being overwhelmed and frustrated with the situation, reported a media outlet.
Meanwhile, levies officials accused of harassing Baloch have been suspended and an inquiry has been initiated against them.
Pakistan is often ranked among the worst countries for women’s security.
According to the global gender gap index 2022, out of 146 countries, Pakistan ranked 145th, with a growth of only 0.008 since 2021, and due to the lack of a support system, financial dependency, and victim blaming, one out of two Pakistani women do not report violence committed against them.
Earlier, Balochistan police recovered a 12-year-old boy from the house of Provincial Minister for Public Health and Engineering Noor Muhammad Dummar in Harnai, who was allegedly raped by two employees of the minister for 20 days.
The boy went missing over a month ago and the police were informed of his disappearance on May 11. On May 13, the victim’s brother filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the employees of the provincial minister, accusing them of raping his brother.
