HRCP Says Found No Evidence Of PTI Women Workers Being Mistreated In Jails

Published on

Contrary to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s claims that his party women workers arrested in connection with the May 9 attacks on military installations were being mistreated in prisons, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has said that it found no evidence in support of such claims.

HRCP chairperson Hina Jilani addressed a press conference, saying that allegations were being propagated that PTI women workers who have been arrested in connection with May 9 incident were being tortured and mistreated. However, she said, the HRCP team visited women prisoners and found no such evidence.

She also added the PTI women workers denied being mistreated in jail when the HRCP team visited them.

She urged the authorities to still investigate these allegations through an independent source.

Earlier, the Punjab government had also rejected the PTI claims that women prisoners were being mistreated and said that eleven women belonging to PTI are behind bars in connection with attacks on military installations following the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan on May 9.
