‘Islamabad Park Rape Suspects Were Killed In Fake Police Encounter After Positive Identification By Survivor’

Published on

Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir, the lawyer of the F-9 Park rape survivor, has claimed that the suspects in the case were killed in a fake police encounter in Islamabad a day after the survivor positively identified them.

On Thursday, the police said two suspects in the F-9 Park rape incident were killed in an encounter.

The police identified the two gunmen, who allegedly opened fire at a police checkpoint late Wednesday night and succumbed to their injuries early Thursday morning as suspects in the F-9 Park rape case.

A journalist shared on his Twitter handle: “The F9 Park rape survivor was called to I-9 police station on February 15 to identify the suspected rapists & she “positively identified” them, says @ImaanZHazir the survivor’s lawyer. She says the suspects were killed in a “fake encounter” in police custody. #Islamabad”

The survivor’s lawyer retweeted the journalist’s Tweet.

On February 2nd, a woman was raped in F-9 Park in Islamabad while she was with her male colleague. According to the FIR, two men raped the woman at a gunpoint and told her to “not to come to the park at this time”.

The incident had drawn widespread condemnation from civil society and human rights organisations, with the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banning the coverage of the incident.

Meanwhile, netizens have questioned whether the F-9 Park rape victim had actually identified the suspects killed in the police encounter as her rapists.
