Islamabad Police Arrest Former Minister Shireen Mazari In Late-Night Raid At Home

Published on

In a late-night raid at her house, Islamabad police arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former minister for human rights Shireen Mazari amid ongoing violent protests by PTI supporters following the arrest of party chief Imran Khan.

Journalist Asad Ali Toor tweeted a video of the arrest, saying the PTI leader was being taken to Adiala Jail.

In videos making rounds online, a man in plainclothes could also be seen breaking into the PTI leader’s house.

Human rights activist and Shireen Mazari’s daughter, Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir, tweeted that 50 police officers and plainclothes persons outside her house were trying to break the gate.

Another PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid was also arrested last night.

Amid protests by PTI supporters, the authorities have arrested several PTI leaders for “inciting violence”.

Provincial governments have also sought the army’s assistance to maintain a “law and order” situation.
