Karachi Man Who Killed His Daughter For ‘Honour’ On Court’s Premises Acquitted

Published on

A man who killed his daughter for ‘honour’ on a court’s premises in Karachi in January this year was set free after his wife and children pardoned him.

Ameer Jan gunned down his 19-year-old daughter Hajira in the name of ‘honour’ on the premises of Karachi’s City Courts when she had appeared to record her statement before a judicial magistrate.

He had also caused injuries to two passers-by, including a constable.

The victim’s mother and siblings along with the two passers-by injured in the attack pardoned Ameer Jan, “in the name of Almighty Allah”, reported The News.

A day earlier, a man gunned down his wife during the hearing of a dissolution of marriage (khula) case filed by the woman, on the premises of Karachi’s City Courts.

The police arrested the suspect.

Pakistan is often ranked among the worst countries for women’s security.

According to the global gender gap index 2022, out of 146 countries, Pakistan ranked 145th, with a growth of only 0.008 since 2021, and due to the lack of a support system, financial dependency, and victim blaming, one out of two Pakistani women do not report violence committed against them.
