Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters protesting the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan stormed the office of Radio Pakistan Peshawar, country’s oldest broadcasting station.

PTI chairman Imran Khan was arrested yesterday by Rangers in a corruption case.

According to a statement by Tahir Hussain, the director general of Radio Pakistan, the PTI supporters broke into the Radio Pakistan Peshawar office. He added that the protesters entered the newsroom and radio audio room and set fire to the furniture inside.

They also attacked the staff at the office, Hussain said.

In videos circulating on social media, the Radio Pakistan office could be seen engulfed by fire.

Meanwhile, PTI protests intensified across the country with them especially turning violent in Peshawar where four deaths have been reported so far.

Punjab and Khyber Pakhuntkhwa governments have requested the deployment of army to maintain “law and order situation”.
