Amid a rise in Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) attacks targeting officials from law enforcement agencies, the police in North Waziristan have reportedly refused to accompany anti-polio teams.
Pakistan has witnessed a resurgence of terrorism with the banned TTP specifically targeting the military and police. According to a report by Reuters, the militant group is using sophisticated weapons, including weapons from the stock left behind by Western forces when they exited Afghanistan in 2021.
During the first three months of this year, as many as 127 policemen were killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in various attacks.
Police have refused to perform duties during the anti-polio campaign in North Waziristan tribal district. Sources say that police in few more southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may follow the suit.
