Six women who were arrested for alleged blasphemy following a quarrel with drug peddlers reportedly supported by police authorities in Mirpur Khas await bail hearing as lawyers are reluctant to fight their case.

All six women, who are being kept in Hyderabad Central Jail, are residents of the Jhuddo area in Mirpur Khas, Sindh. Two men from the area were also arrested in the same case, reported Lok Sujag.

According to family members, these women had a quarrel with drug peddlers in the area, who then attacked their houses. The family members have also accused police authorities of backing up the drug peddlers.

After the police failed to register a First Information Report (FIR) over the incident, eight people, including six women and two men, staged a sit-in demonstration near Jhudo – Tando Bago Bypass.

As per the report, there was a hut for the collection of donation money for a Madrassah being built under the supervision of a local prayer leader, near the site of sit-in demonstration, which was allegedly burnt by the protestors.

The local prayer leader filed a complaint against eight people under the charges of blasphemy, and terrorism. He said that there was a poster on the hut wherein sacred names and Quranic verses were written and the poster was also burnt when they had allegedly sit fire to the hut.

Six women arrested for alleged blasphemy are being kept in Hyderabad Central Jail as there are no women jail in Mirpur Khas.
