Published on

Two students studying at a local Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader’s madrassa in Khuzdar, Balochistan, have been arrested for raping an 11-year-old boy.

The madrassa is owned by JI leader Aslam Gazgi.

The arrest was made after widespread condemnation from human rights activists.

Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has taken notice of the incident after widespread condemnation from human rights activists and directed the police authorities to take action against the culprits.

Earlier, local activists alleged that the police were not registering a First Information Report (FIR) due to the involvement of an influential JI politician.

According to the FIR, which was lodged three days after the incident, an 11-year-old boy was raped by two culprits. The incident occurred at 11am on April 26, 2023.  Two boys on a motorbike allegedly kidnapped the 11-year-old kid when he was playing in front of his house.

They took the boy to a hilly area near Bagbhana, Khuzdar where they committed the crime.

A report by an NGO working on child protection, Sahil, revealed that over 12 children were sexually abused daily in Pakistan and as many as 4,253 cases of child sexual abuse were reported in Pakistan in 2022.
