The remarks come after an audio clip emerged purportedly featuring a conversation between the mother-in-law of Chief Justice of Pakistan Umer Ata Bandial and a spouse of one of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) legal advisers — Khawaja Tariq Rahim.

The two women were purportedly discussing a sub-judice matter regarding the suo motu notice by CJP Umar Ata Bandial on the delay of elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies.

While questioning why the audios of top-ranked army officials have never emerged, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that the politicians and judges should be on the same page over the issue.

“Will the politicians & judges ever rise & draw a line or continue to glee when its not them & cry when they are,” he said.

A series of audio clips have emerged purportedly of senior politicians in the last few months.

In 2019, it was revealed that intelligence agencies had tapped the phone of senior Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who is the next chief justice of Pakistan, during a reference filed against the top judge for allegedly not disclosing his foreign properties in his wealth returns.

A 10-member full court, headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial, heard the case.

Since then, audio clips associated with a number of politicians have emerged, none of which have been verified.

Earlier in the day, an audio clip allegedly featuring former chief justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar and PTI lawyer Khwaja Tariq Raheem discussing legal matters apparently of political significance also surfaced on social media.

Last year, multiple audio clips hit social media platforms wherein Prime Minister Sharif and his predecessor Imran Khan could be heard discussing official matters with their ministers or close aides.

The conversations were purportedly recorded in the prime minister’s office and official residence.
