Three days after blasts at the Counter Terrorism Department’s (CTD) office in Swat, that claimed 17 lives, a Balochistan CTD official has been killed in an explosion targeting his vehicle.

The station house officer (SHO) of the Khuzdar Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station, identified as Sharbat Khan Umrani, was killed in a blast targeting his vehicle.

According to reports, the incident took place near Jhalawan Medical College located on the National Highway.

Dawn reported that the explosion took place when the official was on his way to work. A bomb was fitted in the slain CTD official’s vehicle.

The blast occurred on Monday at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Kabal police station in Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. At least 17 people were killed in the blast, mostly policemen.

The cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained.

Following the blasts, citizens in Swat protested the rise in terrorism in the region.

Pakistan has witnessed a resurgence of terrorism with the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) targeting security officials particularly.

TTP is supported by the Taliban-led Afghan government.

In January, a blast in Peshawar mosque inside a police compound claimed the lives of more than 60 people. The TTP claimed responsibility for one of the deadliest blasts in the city. Last month a police station in Peshawar was also targeted, resulting in three deaths. Meanwhile, the day after the deadly Peshawar attack, Punjab police thwarted an attack on a police station in Mianwali.

The family of a Baloch woman, who was allegedly abducted by the law enforcers last month from her home in Quetta and later declared a terrorist, has alleged that her video confession was forcibly obtained by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) as they continue to hold her in custody.

The family of Mahal Baloch said this during a press conference held at Quetta Press Club.

The family also accused the CTD officials and Balochistan government officials of conducting a media trial by releasing the video message of Mahal Baloch in which she confessed her link with the banned BLF. They said this also put the rest of the family in danger, reported The Balochistan Post.

The family urged the government and judicial authorities to take notice of the matter.

Earlier, Balochistan CTD DIG Aitzaz Goraya and CM’s spokesman Babar Khan Yousafzai held a press conference and said that Mahal Baloch admitted her association with the outlawed BLF.

They presented a video message of Mahal Baloch in which she confessed her link with the BLF and said her husband was also working for the banned organisation.

“My husband was killed along with his brother in 2016 and I shifted to Karachi with my in-laws where people belonging to the banned organisation contacted and brainwashed [me], and after that, I joined the organisation and later shifted to Quetta,” she said.
