The arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan sparked nationwide protests with his party workers attacking military and civil properties. The PTI chief was granted broad protection from arrest in multiple cases against him by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on May 13.

City police officer Usman Akram Gondal terminated the police officer’s service over violation of discipline after his video clip celebrating the release of the PTI chairman went viral.

After taking notice of the clip, the CPO had ordered an inquiry that found the constable, Faizan, guilty of violating the police department’s discipline. Therefore, the constable was dismissed from the service, Dawn reported.

Following the violent protests, the military and civil leadership vowed strict action against the PTI leaders and protesters. Several PTI leaders and workers have been arrested and Pakistan Army has decided to hold trials of the PTI protesters who attacked the military installations in military courts. The crackdown against the party has drawn severe condemnation from human rights activists.
