Two Kenyan women who were recently rescued from Karachi after an operation conducted by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) and the Citizens Police Liaison Committee, at the request of the Kenyan high commissioner in Pakistan, have told a court they were kidnapped by a local couple.

Earlier this week, the Karachi police had arrested suspects, accused of falsely offering jobs and business offers to the two victims.

According to law enforcers, suspect Haider Rehman brought Lule Abdi from Kenya as part of human trafficking. While another woman, Terasa Mwangi, was brought by Haider’s wife and three other suspects on the pretext of providing her with a job in a travel agency.

Lule Abdi, 32, told the court that she had befriended Haider in Nairobi and she came to Pakistan with the intention of doing business with him. However, when she reached Pakistan, Haider took her passport, illegally confined her, and threatened her, Dawn reported.

Meanwhile, Terasa Mwangi, 21, told the judge that she had been in Pakistan for a year on a visit visa and the local couple exploited her near-expiry visit visa-related difficulties

Women were rescued after Lule Abdi contacted her brother in Kenya, who subsequently contacted the Kenyan high commissioner in Pakistan. Later, law enforcers conducted a rescue operation at the request of the Kenyan high commissioner.
