Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former minister for human rights Shireen Mazari was released from jail after her daughter Imaan Mazari, who had alleged that she was manhandled at a police station where her mother was being held, filed a habeas corpus petition in Islamabad High Court (IHC). The former minister was rearrested by police yesterday shortly after her release from Adiala Jail.

PTI leaders Shireen Mazari and Senator Falak Naz were rearrested soon after they were released from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) directives that had declared their arrest under MPO unlawful. However, the police rearrested the leaders.

According to Shireen Mazari’s daughter Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir, she was unaware of the whereabouts of her mother after she was rearrested last night. She also filed a habeas corpus petition through her counsel in Islamabad High Court. She had also alleged that she was manhandled at a police station. She had also accused police of torturing the former minister.

Shireen Mazari was arrested along with several PTI leaders in connection with violent protests following the arrest of party chairman Imran Khan.

After Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters stormed Corp Commander Lahore residence carrying party flags, to protest former prime minister Imran Khan’s arrest, the PTI leadership has distanced itself from the violent protests, saying “miscreants” not affiliated with the party resorted to vandalism.

In other videos making rounds on social media, PTI supporters could be seen breaking into Corps Commander Lahore’s residence, extensively damaging the property. They were also seen setting furniture to the fire and stealing peacocks from the house.

Several PTI leaders, including former minister Yasmin Rashid and Imran Khan’s nephew Hassan Niazi, were part of a protest rally in Lahore against Imran Khan’s arrest.

Hassan Niazi could also be seen outside the Corps Commander Lahore’s residence, sloganeering against armed forces, in one of the videos making rounds on social media.

However, later in the day, PTI leaders distanced themselves from the violent protests across the country, saying saying “miscreants” unrelated to the party resorted to vandalism.

PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi called on protesters to remain peaceful during the protests against the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, PTI Senator Faisal Javed has distanced the party from instances of vandalism and setting public property alight during protests.

Javed said “miscreants” unrelated to the PTI were planted and were actually the cause for the instances of setting things on fire. He said the party leadership had issued clear instructions to workers to remain peaceful.

Former prime minister Imran Khan was arrested yesterday by Rangers from Islamabad High Court in corruption case.
