A journalist working for international media has said he was beaten up and abducted by security agencies who held him at the police station for four hours when he was covering the protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters that erupted at Pakistan Army’s headquarters in Rawalpindi following the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan.

Hasan Ali is a freelance journalist who contributes to international media organisations like, The Christian Science Monitor, and Vanity Fair. He mainly reports on issues related to marginalised communities.

Hasan Ali told Dissent Today that he was beaten up and picked up from outside the General Headquarters, Rawalpindi while he was reporting on protest against the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan that erupted at the site.

He also claimed that he was held at a police station without any charges for four hours.

“I find this a scandalous violation of the rule of law and a troubling sign of the callousness with which the state perceives our basic rights as citizens of the republic,” he added.

Violent protests erupted across the country following the arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan from Islamabad High Court yesterday where he had appeared to get bail in multiple cases registered against him.

He was arrested in a corruption case by rangers.

Protesters across the country entered various army areas and resorted to damaging public property, while clashes between PTI supporters and police were also reported.

An office of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Kabal area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Swat Valley was reduced to rubble after two huge explosions.

The cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained.

Swat residents gathered at Kabal Chowk, Swat, in a protest rally organised by the Swat rights movement, Swat Olasi Pasoon (Swat People’s Movement).

People protested against growing insecurity in the region.

Last year, the residents of Swat had organised a series of protest demonstrations against the rise in terrorism in the region. They demanded the authorities to curtail the rise of terrorism in the region.

Pakistan has witnessed a resurgence of terrorism with the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) targeting security officials particularly.

TTP is supported by the Taliban-led Afghan government.

Earlier, two policemen were killed and four others sustained injuries in militant attacks on census teams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s southern districts of Tank and Lakki Marwat.

In Tank’s Kot Azam area, terrorists had opened fire at a police van deployed for the security of census staff while it was returning from a village. As a result, constable Khan Nawab was killed, while police constables Shah Nawaz and Aslam Khan, Levies official Bismillah, Frontier Constabulary official Abdullah and driver Eid Jan were injured.

Same day in another militant attack on a census team, a Frontier Reserve Police (FRP) police constable was killed in Pirwala area of the Lakki Marwat district when motorcyclists opened fire at the census team.

In January, a blast in Peshawar mosque inside a police compound claimed the lives of more than 60 people. The TTP claimed responsibility for one of the deadliest blasts in the city. Last month a police station in Peshawar was also targeted, resulting in three deaths. Meanwhile, the day after the deadly Peshawar attack, Punjab police thwarted an attack on a police station in Mianwali.

The protests are being held in a number of cities across the province, with protesters demanding that the government take effective measures to counter terrorism, and promote peace and stability in the region

The message of these protests is very clear: terrorism is unacceptable, and the State should take immediate steps to combat terrorism

Pakistan, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been in grips of terrorism for decades, with extremist groups carrying out countless acts of violence and destruction across the country.

After the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, the terrorist groups have reunited and re-established in neighbouring Pakistan as well. There have been several high-profile terror attacks in the country, causing widespread fear and outrage among the population. These attacks have prompted people to take to the streets in protest against terrorism, calling for an end to the violence and greater accountability for those responsible.

The Peshawar blast that targeted a mosque in a heavily-guarded police compound, claiming over 50 lives, is one of the most recent and deadliest terror attacks in the province. The attack is said to be claimed by the banned militant group, TTP, and was seen as an attempt to destabilize the country and spread fear among the population.

Besides this blast, the Taliban have claimed responsibility for many other attacks, as well as the targeted killing of police officers. They are also involved in extortion from businessmen and political leaders. They also threaten schools, especially girls’ schools, and locals as well.

In response to these attacks, the people of KP have been taking to the streets, calling for an end to the violence and greater accountability for those responsible. The protests have been organized by a range of groups, including human rights organisations, civil society groups, and ordinary citizens.

The protests are being held in a number of cities across the province, with protesters demanding that the government take effective measures to counter terrorism, and promote peace and stability in the region.

People are calling these protests the end game for terrorists and their sponsors.

Despite the challenges, the protests against terrorism in KP continue to gain momentum, with a growing number of people taking to the streets.

The message of these protests is very clear: terrorism is unacceptable, and the State should take immediate steps to counter terrorism.

In conclusion, the recent terrorist attacks in KP and the protests against them have highlighted the ongoing threat of terrorism in the country.

It is imperative that the international community take action to support the people of Pakistan in their fight against terrorism and only then can we hope to achieve lasting peace and security in this region.

The PEMRA also warned that in case of non-compliance, the licence of the television channel may be suspended without any show cause notice in the public interest along with other enabling provisions of law.

On February 2nd, a woman was raped in F-9 Park in Islamabad while she was with her male colleague. According to the FIR, two men raped the woman at a gunpoint and told her “not to come to the park at this time”.

This is not the first time PEMRA has banned the coverage of cases related to violence against women. The media regulatory authority also banned the coverage of the Lahore motorway gangrape incident, citing at the time that the media coverage “will diminish the evidentiary worth of the material collected by the prosecution”.

Meanwhile, there is an uproar regarding the PEMRA’s orders of banning the media coverage with some deeming the move “stupid”.

Earlier Same Order was issued with respect to Motorway Rape Case. I challenged that on Lahore High Court and same was suspended. PEMRA operates so whimsically.Identity and privacy of victim should remain intact rest should be covered. https://t.co/KOY8bjCCpr

Police is busy in arresting/harassing political opponents.
And the State (PEMRA) responses with a ban on the coverage of the rape case on TV.
If you report it on TV, your license will get cancelled.

The incident has caused widespread outrage as several people protested in F-9 Park on Monday to “demand safe spaces for women”.

Today at F9 park to demand safe spaces so we can JUST breathe freely. I wish living in this country wasn’t like a constant battle of survival for us women. 💔 pic.twitter.com/vAdhcr5boC

Protesters also demanded that the State should guarantee women’s safety in the country, and they are protesting to send a message that “the onus is on the rapist. Not our clothes, nor the place or the time, it is the Rapist. It is the system which produces rapists”.

with various messages against the heinous rape. We hope that they serve as a reminder that public spaces are not safe for us and it is on the state to guarantee that safety instead of putting curfews on women pic.twitter.com/ScWQpTx0ma
