Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) lawmaker Danesh Kumar delivered a fiery speech in Senate, regretting the practice of profiteering, hoarding, and overcharging during Ramzan.

“It is said that the devils are chained up during the holy month of Ramzan, but in Pakistan, they are roaming free,” he said, while lamenting the overcharging during the Muslim’s holy month.

He then addressed the Senate Chairperson and said that “I am a non-Muslim and my friend here (Senate) asks me to convert to Islam”.

The lawmaker added how can I convert to Islam when I see these actions of Muslims.

“First convert those hoarders to Islam, then preach me,” he added.

Minorities in Pakistan face growing intolerance and persecution. A senior Hindu doctor was recently shot dead in Karachi’s Garden area after his vehicle was attacked by unknown assailants, in what has been described by the police as a case of targeted killing.

A Sikh man identified as Dyal Singh was gunned down in the Garhi Ata Mohammad area on the outskirts of Peshawar last weekThe assailant parked his motorcycle outside Singh’s shop and fired two shots from a pistol, killing Dyal on the spot.

A day later, a member of the Christian community, Kashif Masih, was shot dead in Banaras Abad Academy Town.  Armed men opened fire on him while he was on his way home.

Forced conversion and marriage of young women from minority religions, including Hindus and Christians, is a growing problem in Pakistan. Hundreds of such cases are reported in Pakistan every year.
