According to a recent poll, Vice President Kamala Harris’s lead over former President Donald Trump among Americans under 45 years of age has reached its largest margin since she became the Democratic nominee.
The new Economist/YouGov poll, published on Wednesday, reveals that Harris holds a 22-point advantage, with 56% support compared to Trump’s 34% among adults aged 45 and younger. However, Trump performed better with older voters, securing 56% of support among registered voters aged 65 and older, while Harris received 39%.
The vice president maintained a similar lead among individuals aged 30 to 44, securing 53 percent support compared to Trump’s 36 percent.
Among registered voters, the Democratic candidate held a slight edge, with Harris receiving 47 percent and Trump obtaining 45 percent—this lead falls within the margin of error of the poll.
According to the poll, the former president had a considerable advantage among independents, earning 46 percent support while Harris received 37 percent.
Supporters of both campaigns are eager to vote for their preferred candidates in November, according to the survey. About 68 percent of Trump supporters and around 67 percent of the vice president’s supporters expressed being “extremely or very enthusiastic” about casting their ballots for their candidate.
The former president holds a 1 percentage point lead among men, while Harris enjoys a 4-point advantage among women, both of which are smaller margins than in prior weeks, as reported by the poll. Trump leads by 23 points (59 percent to 36 percent) among veterans and active military personnel who are registered to vote. The survey also indicated that in this demographic, Republicans have 41 percent support compared to 28 percent for Democrats.
