‘Hold Men Accountable’: Actor Anoushey Ashraf Shares Experience Being Stalked

Published on

RJ and actor, Anoushay Ashraf, condemned sexual harassment and victim blaming among other challenges that women in Pakistan constantly face, while talking to fellow singer Ali Gul Pir on his podcast.

Sharing her own experience of being stalked to an extent that she had to file a complaint against the harasser, the conversation between the RJ and the podcast host touched on many complexities associated with opening up about harassment in a patriarchal society.

She stressed and acknowledged how far worse any situation of stalking can be for women who lack influence. It can happen to anyone and not everyone is on a position to call out and name their harasser. She talked of how the victim is, in turn, blamed for causing the situation in the first place, saying there is no reason to believe a woman would lie about it.

Expanding the discussion to how one would react to a friend of them being accused of harassment, Anoushey shared she has been through such situations. She made a clear point that men need to hold themselves accountable.

Her candid talk and personal experiences rightly reflected the dark realities of stalking, harassment, acid attacks, and gender based violence in Pakistan.
